Dr. Ir. Arief Yahya, MSc is the current Minister of Tourism of The Republic of Indonesia assigned since 2014 in President Joko Widodo’s Working Cabinet. He was formerly the CEO of PT. Telkom Indonesia since 2012. In his period, Telkom had been spreading its wings internationally through its subsidiary, Telin, to several countries including Hongkong, Malaysia, Singapore, Timor Leste, Australia etc.
In 2006, he received an award of Satyalencana Pembangunan from the President for his success in improving primary service in Kalimantan and East Java. In the same year, he was also listed as one of “25 Business Future Leader” in SWA magazine. Additionally, he got several awards including, Economic Challenge Award 2012 in the category of Telecommunication Industry, Business Review 2012 award from Business Review magazine and The Best Innovative State Owned Enterprise CEO of 2012. Under his leadership, Telkom reached outstanding achievement of revenue amounted 56,864 trillion rupiahs in 2012.
The talk by Mr. Arief Yahya will bring about the theme of The Transformation of Digital Economic Era Towards Improving Tourism Industry Performance of Indonesia.
Government has surely defined its vision to be the largest ASEAN digital economy in 2020. Simultaneously, President Joko Widodo targeted 20 million tourists coming to Indonesia until 2019. The targets clearly need a lot of hard works and appropriate strategies.
Digital economic era, tourism industry performance and transformation are three major keywords in this talk. It is hoped that the talk will enrich audience perspective and awareness regarding the related issues to be considered as decision making basis.
